Eating & Nutrition Issues
A person’s relationship with her or his body can be a complicated one. With constant pressure to look or act in compliance with expectations, it’s easy to feel trapped and isolated when struggling with food and body issues. I know how complex these issues are and that they are not simply issues of vanity. I understand how truly painful it is to be at odds with one’s own body. Sometimes people become dangerously underweight, but other times the scale doesn’t move at all (or it goes up). If you are suffering – obsessing over food and weight, terrified of gaining weight, using food as a comfort, afraid that if you don’t exercise you will lose control, beating yourself up over your weight – there is help.
I’m a Clinical Psychologist and member of the International Association of Eating Disorders Professional Foundation (IAEDP). I specialize in working with people struggling with eating and nutrition issues. This includes weight management, disordered or emotional eating, body image issues, and eating disorder treatment. No matter where you are in your treatment process, we will meet for an initial consultation to help you decide your next step. I work with those with Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, or other eating problems. Therapy isn’t just for those who have a diagnosable eating disorder. If it is causing a problem for you, you may need some support.
I offer outpatient eating disorder treatment and collaborate with other professionals who are involved in your care. I work with children, adolescents, and adults with eating disorders. In the beginning, we will focus on stabilizing behaviors and restoring your physical well-being. As you progress through treatment, we will work on addressing the underlying issues that maintain the problem. I utilize an integrative approach in therapy for eating disorders that incorporates cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, family systems therapy, and emotion-focused therapy. Together, we will develop an individualized plan depending on your needs and situation.
