About Anna Netzel
Anna Netzel is a licensed clinical social worker, specializing in perinatal mood disorders and maternal mental health. Anna also provides general psychotherapy to adolescents and young adults. She conducts therapy services online and in the South Barrington office.
Education and Training
Anna began her career as a School Social Worker and transitioned to private practice in 2018. Anna graduated from Dominican University, in 2014, with her Master’s in Social Work and her professional educator’s license, type 73. She completed internships at Adoption Link, in Oak Park, and at Glenbard North High School, where she worked as a school social worker. Anna worked with both students in special and mainstream education tracts, to help students manage social concerns, anxiety, depression, ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorders. Anna has worked extensively in education and at both public and therapeutic school settings where she has managed caseloads of students with 504 plans and IEPs. Anna was able to implement mindfulness programs in school and created groups to help aid in social development and emotional regulation. She is able to advocate for families to develop and implement 504 Plans and IEPs.
In 2018, Anna completed her Postpartum Support International Certification, one of the world’s leading organizations helping women with perinatal mood disorders, to work with families in the perinatal period. Anna completed her training and received her certification as a perinatal mental health specialist in 2020. Anna has been working with mothers with anxiety, depression, OCD, fertility concerns, trauma and loss since 2018.
Clinical Interests and Approaches
Anna has a passion for working with women and families in the perinatal period and throughout motherhood. She uses a mindful approach to therapy and incorporates techniques from the nation’s leading postpartum researcher, Karen Kleiman. Anna uses a holistic approach to help client’s build on their own strengths. Anna also uses treatment modalities such as cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy and acceptance and commitment therapy. Anna believes in healing through building a strong therapeutic relationship. Developing trust between herself and clients creates a safe space where clients can feel they are able to create change for themselves.
On a personal note
Anna lives in the northwest suburbs with her husband and daughter. Anna spends her free time with her family as much as possible. She enjoys reading, practicing yoga, walking and spending time outside. Anna loves boating with her family and friends and enjoys crafting when she can’t be outside.
